Director & Head of Project Controls
Background
Schalk started at ELB Construction in May 2012, 10 months after the company opened its doors. He functioned as a cost controller until 2013, head of project controls until 2016 and currently as director since 2017. He has been involved in all aspects of the cost and management accounting function as well as cost controlling on various projects ranging from R100k to R350million.
He is a highly motivated and energetic team player with extensive experience in project cost engineering, developing and maintaining reporting tools to assist projects during planning, execution and close-out phases as well as looking after the day to day management accounting responsibilities. He is detail driven and enjoys implementing financial and management accounting systems and procedures to accurately produce management accounts and reporting to shareholders.
During his time at ELB Construction he obtained his Bachelors in Accounting – BCompt (Management Accounting) degree at UNISA in 2015 as well as completing the Management Advancement Program (MAP129) through the University of Witwatersrand in 2017 in which he obtained combined 3rd place with Mike Meijers in the program.
Schalk’s strengths in finance and project controls as well as his passion for seeing people develop stems from his 7 years of teaching as well as his Bachelors in Education degree that he obtained in 2001 from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. He always enjoys working with people and believes that the team is always stronger than the sum of its parts.
